Artist's Comments

The theme we were given in art class was "the kiss" and we had to draw it in the style of art nouveau. I was inspired by this beautiful poem by the great Sappho  I love her

The sweet apple reddens on a high branch,
High upon highest, missed by the applepickers:
No, they didn't miss, they couldn't reach it.

So the black-haired one is Sappho, the other one is a girl she fell in love with, who gives Sappho the apple...

I want to dedicate this to my dear friend with michelangelo-complex , who I share all secrets with

Non si levava allora
soffio di vento a scuotere le foglie
né a impedire che la dolce voce
diffondendosi intorno
aderisse alle orecchie dei mortali.

Exceptionally exquisite expression, this gift between lovers of apples that other with less vision and reach will surely always miss, as well as the power of personal love found in the fruit of the kiss. very much love the apple as the vessel of yin and yang.

I'm very honoured anf thankful for your thoughtful comment. It really is a true thing that sometimes the best thing/person is the most difficult to reach. With the gift of the apple I wanted to show that she, the most desirable one, gives herself to Sappho out of her own will, as a prove of love. Actually the yin and yang - motif wasn't done on purpose but it proves your sharp eye for details. Thanks again
